Memorial Service
Memorial service
A memorial service is an event held after a funeral, i.e. a blessing or farewell service, where loved ones can remember the deceased and their life. The memorial service usually includes food and coffee, along with speeches, musical performances and addresses.
The memorial service is very informal and often a priest is also invited to the event. The memorial service can be held, for example, in a parish hall, a restaurant cabinet, a private space or even at home. The memorial service traditionally lasts about 4 hours.
If you wish, we can arrange the location and catering for the memorial service for you. We take care of everything from white tablecloths to white candles on the memorial table. The loved one only needs to bring a photo of the deceased to the memorial table. Below is information on the most common places where memorial services are held.
Parish halls
Parish halls are free of charge if the deceased belongs to the parish.
Capacity: Varies depending on the venue, but usually 25-100 people.
Catering: Catering must be provided by yourself or through a catering service.
Example location: Töölö Church parish hall (48 people)
Private space
A wide selection of different sized spaces to suit your needs. There are costs for renting the space.
Capacity: Varies depending on the venue you choose.
Catering: Catering can be provided by yourself, by a catering service or by the chosen space.
Example location: Hietsu Paviljonki (several different spaces and additional services available).
Restaurant cabinet
A cost-effective option for smaller groups.
Capacity: Typically 10–30 people.
Catering: Through a restaurant.
Example location: Memori juhlasalit (a family business specializing in memorial services)
At home
A warm and affordable option for a smaller memorial service.
Capacity: Usually 2–15 people.
Catering: You can take care of the catering yourself or order it from a catering service.
Example location: The deceased's summer cottage (an atmospheric and memorable place)
Catering
If a catering service is chosen to handle the catering for the memorial service, we can help. The catering staff will arrive about an hour before the event starts and will clean up after the event. It is a good idea to take this into account when booking the space (usually 1 hour of preparation + 4 hours of event + 1 hour of cleaning).
The catering service includes a waiter (max. 6 working hours / waiter), an agreed menu, the necessary dinnerware and glasses, cloth tablecloths, transportation within the area, tealight candles for the dining tables, a crown candle for the memorial table, white paper dinner and coffee napkins. The relative just needs to remember to bring a picture of the deceased to the memorial table.
